From Star Tribune: Ariel Wade rolled into the drive-through at the 24-hour White Castle, one block from the State Capitol. Wade rolled away “madder than fish grease” after the staff refused to hand over any burgers. The reason: She was riding in an electric mobility scooter. The drive-throughs are for licensed motor vehicles only. White Castle says it’s a safety measure that’s standard in the industry, to keep pedestrians from getting creamed by cars.
It happened to me once. I checked late at night into a hotel. I was hungry so I walked to a Taco Bell next door and realized that it was closed but the drive-through window 2 feet on the right was open. I popped in my head to chat with the guy who refused to serve me. We had a nice chat for a few minutes, which he was happy to do but wouldn’t serve me a meal. Finally, I went back to the hotel, got into my car, and bought a meal. What if I did not have a car and used a cab to check into a hotel? What if I were disabled like Wade? What if I was not allowed to drive for whatever reason? What if I was too drunk to drive but very hungry?
