I will never read Wall Street Journal again
Jeff Jarvis writes about WSJ’s plan to ask for micropayments to read the Wall Street Journal. Like him, I would never pay to read anything on the Web. He says, “So if the Journal brings on micropayment, I fear for them that they’ll lose doubly. They’ll lose my subscription. They’ll lose my even occasional readership and the ad revenue that can come with that. They will, in a cruel irony, replace digital dollars with micro pennies.”
Jeff, agree with you totally. I follow pretty much the same sequence.
The reason WSJ’s plan will fail miserably is that as long as there is just one free source of news on the web, no one else can make a profit on that news.
But what about analysis and commentary, one may ask.
Gee, I already think there are too many opinionated folks dishing their opinions and analysis for free.
