How should guys dress?
Too many times even fashionable men dismiss outfits like this as too modelish, but the reality is that if you are going to be seen in a navy polo and khaki trousers, that is what you will be: dull and boring doomed to a life of mediocrity in middle class.

What kind of idiots run Mission India?
Well, with the Operation Smile fiasco, I was really not hoping for yet another disastrous experience donating to charity.  My wife, a devout Christian, (I am an atheist) sent them $20 because they are evangelizing Hindus in India. You would expect that they will use the money to buy Bibles and send missionaries.  To my horror, since we made that donation less than a month ago, they have mailed us...

Why I now hate Operation Smile?
Well I made a huge mistake by donating money to Operation Smile (a friend told me about some visits that they made to Latin America) at the end of last year and while I used a credit card and never gave my phone number, this charity sold my contact info to the crooks at Strategic Fundraising in Boykins, VA (these telemarketing firms have these very generic names, typically with no websites, and...

How to detox my brain?
An email I sent to a friend who is having some issues with her life and relationship: Do not be surprised if you do not hear much from me about your story.  There is a reason:  remember the reason for writing.  Forgive the analogy but to me it is like going to the toilet.  You get it out of your body as fast as you can and then not even take a look at it.  You flush it and even get rid of the...

My girlfriend is so confusing to me
I guess in a way I find it terribly sad. I mean all relationships take work, compromise, effort. And there are many things we learn as we go through life and our relationships. I have some good friends too, who help. I suppose too, that non of us are perfect, we all have areas that we’d wish were not so difficult. Temper, or stubbornness, depression or any number of emotional frailties. Pus...

Tremont Street Mela lunch buffet
After eating a really bad lunch buffet at Tamarind Bay in Cambridge, MA the other day I literally swore off never to touch Indian food again.  But as they say, you should never say never.  This weekend I was hoping to grab some delicious Vietnamese lunch at the Pho Republique on Washington Street and even got a free parking spot right across the street.  Guess what, when I walked to the...

Lunch buffet at Tamarind Bay in Cambridge
My wife really wanted to eat there because after all it was a Best of Boston restaurant.  What were these idiots at Boston magazine thinking?  Did they get a bribe or what?  First of all it is in a dinghy basement that you get depressed as soon as you go down the steps.  Secondly, the buffet is small and tasteless (yep, I know Indian food having eaten it hundreds of times, including in India).  We...

Vantage Deluxe World Travel fraud
Beware of a company called Vantage Deluxe World Travel, a large tour operator based in Boston that markets to seniors, according to an article in the Times.  Or if you book, get an attorney first (it other words, don’t use them).  They are a bunch of crooks that use fine print to screw you.

Saturation with Michael Jackson TV coverage
I grew up listening to Michael Jackson, love his music, admire him as an artist, and very sad to see him go, but death is a definite outcome for us all, sooner or later.  It is a moment of mourning for all his fans, but gee, the way television channels have stopped everything and covering the death 24-7 is disgusting.

Poem for a crush
I am the one who imagines What can or cannot be Who feels what you can feel When the sunrise see your eyes I am the one who imagines What a nice and sweet sensation Of your lips smiling at me Of your eyes gazing at me I am the one who imagines Though I’ve never seen your face

Poem for a beautiful girl
You don’t look like a working girl You are like a princess to me You always dress in the very best like your going to a party But who can know your heart? You move so smooth and touch so well Your kiss is warm and you never tell Who can know your heart? So I dream about you still living life upon that hill Giving love to everyone Must be a lot of fun But then I think who can know Who can...

Can you love more than one person?
I have done my very best to make people understand what it means to love a broad range of people without the sole motivation of possessing them.  It is a hard concept for many people to follow since so many people equate love with ownership of the other person.  It seems that a lot of people are appreciating this wonderful way of looking at the world and at other people and I guess in view of...

Why bother about Iran?
No doubt Iran is our enemy and Iranians probably hate our guts, but aren’t all Iranian politicians the same as far as we are concerned?  Even Democrats and Republicans are fairly alike in their core foreign policies?  That is just the reality of politics.  Of course, elections in Iran were rigged (remember that just before Saddam Hussain was taken out by us he too won the elections by a...

Date with the other woman
I am not a big fan of chain emails but I do open them when the come from a close friend.  This one touched my heart because my mother is a widow too. After 21 years of marriage, my wife wanted me to take another woman out to dinner and a movie. She said I love you but I know this other woman loves you and would love to spend some time with you. The other woman that my wife wanted me to visit was...

Creative ideas of protest by Greenpeace
In a front-page ad in today’s International Herald Tribune, the leaders of the European Union thank the European public for having engaged in months of civil disobedience leading up to the Copenhagen climate conference that will be held this December. “It was only thanks to your massive pressure over the past six months that we could so dramatically shift our climate-change...

Raising Arizona movie review
I ended up on this film while surfing channels.  It was just starting and I was a bit intrigued by Nicholas Cage looking so young.  It is a hilarious movie but with a very serious underlying message (ends don’t justify means).  I literally fell off my couch at a few points.  If you love a movie about American life, people, relationships, and family, you will love it.  I wasn’t...

Rachel Getting Married review
I don’t know how it got into my head that it was going to be comedy (gee, there are so many comedies about weddings) but once I started watching it, I realized that it was one powerful family drama.  A must watch if you want to appreciate what divorces, remariages, drug addiction, and broken families can do to our lives.  As always, Anne Hathaway (can’t forget her performance in Devil...

Feeling good after losing weight
Today has been by far the best day of the week :-). I spent my afternoon at the gym where I ran 6 miles for the first time so that was such a new goal for me:-). I ran into my friend at the gym where he told me that I am slimming down nicely (that was sweet of him) so I went to weigh myself and I am now down to 126 and getting closer to my goal, so that made me smile. My friend asked me where I am...

I smile every day
Today has been a slow but relaxing day. I have been talking with a guy friend that lives in France and he had said a few sweet comments like: you are such a great, funny American with so much heart and sympathy. He said that there are not a lot of girls out there that can make a complete stranger laugh or even carry a smile like you can. That really made my day.

What to do if I hate my body?
Anne really hates her body, it seems.  She writes: My thighs; I find them fat and gross, so I normally wear pants that are flattering to my butt but show my thighs to be a little slender (so black yoga pants is what I basically wear) I hate my arms. I find them fat but I deal with that wearing t-shirts because it’s so hot to wear long sleeves. But I do not wear tanks at all. I do wear a swimsuit...

How to learn from a breakup?
No matter how many breakups I go through I never lose my faith or personality from that guy. I always try to look good in the relationship such as, well, we had a great time together and never had anything to fight about but I believe that we are better off as friends and then maybe later on in life it may work. If not I can look back at it and say well I gained a great friend from it. Today I...

From Star Tribune:  Ariel Wade rolled into the drive-through at the 24-hour White Castle, one block from the State Capitol. Wade rolled away “madder than fish grease” after the staff refused to hand over any burgers. The reason: She was riding in an electric mobility scooter. The drive-throughs are for licensed motor vehicles only. White Castle says it’s a safety measure...

Horrible experience buying carpet from Lowe's
After almost 2 months my carpets were installed and I got so frustrated that I wrote a letter to their store manager.  However, except for excuses, I got nothing; not even a $10 gift certificate.  Here is the letter I wrote about a month ago: Subject:  Exceptionally long delay in my carpet order I have been a loyal customer of Lowe’s since it opened; I switched to your shop all the business...

Email from a non-native speaker of English
Wow, I was imagining your house, it’s quite big, isn’t it? Is it just like the houses in San Fransisco? I bet it’s lovely.  I want to have my own house someday. It would be fun to decorate the house the way I wanted. I love houses with a wooden floor, and a place to read near a wide window; it is a must! A little garden also would be so nice. Last weekend I went out with my high...

Girl who does not like chocolate
Maybe you would be surprised but I always loved the houses in San Fransisco. They are lovely and the view also amazed me. Yes, my dream house is just like you’ve mentioned. I could stay all day long just doing my favorite things.  Maybe someday I could go to San Fransisco. I’ve also spent my weekend reading and writing and I enjoyed it so much. I didn’t get to go out with my...
